Move to PrestaShop with a plan

Make your catalogue more useful with every move.

Your data has a job to do: help customers find and choose products. I plan the migration around that job, bringing catalogue structure, useful filters and important URL mappings into the process from the beginning.

Structure

Give the data a purpose.

Map categories, features and combinations around the choices your customers need to make.

Discovery

Build useful filtering.

Plan the attributes and product information needed to narrow a large catalogue intelligently.

Continuity

Remember the existing paths.

Review valuable old URLs and their destinations before the new shop replaces them.

The practical difference

A well-organised catalogue becomes a shopping tool.

Product records are the beginning. Names, descriptions, images and options need to arrive in a structure that works for both customers and the people managing the shop.

I look at how shoppers narrow the choice: fit, size, material, model, compatibility or another decision specific to your market. That helps establish the categories, features and filters worth building into the target catalogue.

The migration plan also accounts for what the source can reliably provide. Customer and order history, product relationships and custom fields are reviewed for feasibility. Important URLs and redirects receive their own attention before launch.

Possible scope after source review

  • Products, descriptions, images and references
  • Categories, brands, features and combinations
  • Customer and order history where feasible
  • Filtering, navigation and catalogue cleanup
  • Legacy URL mapping and redirect checks

Before we start

A few useful answers.

Can you work from CSV or supplier feeds?

Structured exports and feeds can be reviewed as migration sources. A sample helps establish the mapping, image handling and cleanup needed for a reliable import.

Will customer passwords and order history transfer?

That depends on the source platform, available exports and technical compatibility. I confirm what can be carried over and how customers will access their accounts before committing to that scope.

Should I copy my current categories exactly?

Some may already work well. Others may benefit from consolidation or better product data. The goal is a catalogue structure that supports how your customers search and choose.

Let’s make a useful next move

Your next platform should make your catalogue work harder.
